I don't know if, in 10 minutes and a million people watching me, I could convince them about the importance of mentorship, but according to the “Aggregation of Marginal Gain,” I should try.
I would start by introducing myself and my life story. How I lost myself when I was younger, so much so that I was only one snippet away from losing it all. My family, my friends, my academic life, and my freedom. When I joined a mentor-mentee program, however, I was able to change my life completely.
Mentors and mentee relationships allow you to build a connection with someone closer to your generation range. There might be specific problems that you can't open up to your parents about simply because they don't know the issues of your generation. This will leave you cooped up and alone and ultimately stray. However, when you have somebody closer to your age who has gone through everything you've gone through and more, you can look up to this person and look for him to guide you in this life for every issue that becomes prevalent.
Eighty-seven percent of mentors and mentees feel incredibly empowered and develop greater confidence. Ten minutes is not enough to convince a million individuals, but again, it's enough time to begin.
