“Our families and communities often define us and our individual worlds. I come from a world of twenty kids, spending every Saturday in a classroom. Having two Turkish parents, it had always been one of my dreams to teach the Turkish language and support the kids in my community.

My love lies in interacting with people of all ages. This experience forced me to learn how to see things from a unique perspective. The ability to relate to my students and approach everything from their point of view made me a versatile individual. Each year brought new students from all age groups and each year I strived to make the class into a close-knit community where students looked forward to connecting with one another. Each of my students had a wealth of knowledge to give, making me open-minded to learning from everyone and about everything. Along with this, being a teacher showed me the significance of being patient, having empathy, and the importance of offering support to others. It opened me to build connections, recognizing that these relationships are timeless.

My unique background in teaching classes has prepared me to collaborate with diverse individuals and communities, highlighting what I can bring to the University of Washington. I am eager to join clubs and programs that are similar to my past experiences, such as the University of Washington’s Seattle MESA Tutor Training Program and extend my help to any of the teaching and tutor opportunities. I want to strengthen the sense of community at the University of Washington with the common goal of helping one another.

Living in a world with hundreds of kids for the past 5 years has given me the ability to connect with anyone and mold myself to any environment, making me well-suited for any setting I find myself in.

Got into one of these schools too?
